That Girl Moment #832: "Tragically" Awkward....

Oh, what a story.

So this weekend I was on an Emmaus team and Thursday night I had the strangest thing happen. My friend my friend came up to me at dinner on Thursday night and said, "I am so sorry to hear about your grandfather." My grandfather on my mom's side and I aren't close, so I immediately thought that maybe something had happened and I was the last to know. My face must have shown the shock I felt, because my friend's eyes got round as saucers and he said, "You didn't know?"

Keep in mind that I am "That Girl." Which means by default, I have great compassion for anyone who could even remotely be considered to be having a That Guy/Girl moment...

So immediately I (although terrified) gave the impression that everything was probably fine and tried to brush him off so he wouldn't feel completely and utterly horrendous about being the first one to let me know that my grandfather had passed away.

I hurredly went back to my bunk and called my dad--no answer. I had just seen him earlier that day and he didn't say a word...but still. I was afraid.

So I left him a message, gave another friend a call to see if it was true, and she offered to find out for me. So I went back to the dining hall. At this point a dear, dear friend from FBC comes up and says, "I am so sorry for your loss. God is going to honor your faithfulness to stay here this weekend."

Again with the worry about her feelings. Don't want to make her feel like crap by saying, "Umm, I so do not know what you are talking about..."
So I say (what else???) "Thank you so much" and hugged her.

Then I went back to my seat and made my sweet friend Shellie go find out what in the sam hill was going on for pete's sake.

She came back and reported to me that a man by the last name of Biggs had an obituary in the paper. It appears that his son's name was the same as my dad's name and his granddaughter's name just happened to be Lauren.

WHAT ARE THE ODDS, PEOPLE? WHAT ARE THE ODDS?

So then I had to go back and explain to my friends what had really happened and why I said thank you and such to them. OF course my friend Marc's wife is a reader of this here blog, and so the first thing she said when notified of the obit fiasco was

of course

"Hahahaha THAT GIRL!"

it appears that my reputation precedes me.

LOVE IT! Seriously, what are the odds?? Now you know how all of us Yoder's and Graber's feel when it comes to keeping track of all of our similarly named relatives!! The world is always in need of another John Henry Graber!!

Lauren,
That is too funny!! What a great story to be able to tell people! By the way, thank you for the wonderful prayer you left me. That was so sweet and thoughtful, and everyone's prayers definitely worked. My first day back went very smoothly and Koen was a pretty good boy for the sitter:)Love you!
