Irony.

So I was NOT "That Girl..."

this time.

I was a helpless victim.

I was at Kohl's shopping with my family. A lady I hadn't seen for years came up and greeted me. Now I just got a cool new coat from Target at the behest of my BFF Jami, who said in fact it did not make me look like a fatty. IT's a cute long coat with a belt.

The lady greeted me whereupon which she place her hand on my stomach and patted it. Then she said, "Well, what do we have here?"

Can I tell you that my first instinct was to say, "Well, unless it involves another immaculate conception, then nothing."

Don't worry, I didn't say it.

I had compassion on her because of my own habit of sticking my foot in my mouth (although never regarding pregnancy) so I just tried to offer a diversion.

Enter Hannah. If anyone can distract from an awkward situtation, it's Hann.

"This is my niece Hannah." I said as I pointed to her.

The lady once again placed her hand on my stomach again, and said, "Yes. What do we have here?"

Nothing like perseverance.

she didn't get the hint.

I calmly walked away as she dropped the subject finally and continued to talk with me. I still couldn't bear to tell her it wasn't true because I didn't want to cause her great embarassment and make her feel bad.

Then my family reminded me in the car that probably wasn't a great plan. After all, I don't want any rumors circling.

So Bloggerotsky, it's your turn. Has something like this ever happened to you, and if so, how did you handle it?

OR maybe you accidentally asked an awkward question that took some repair.

Let's have some fun with this.!!

Welp, I'm off to the gym.

Just kidding...

**MY niece was reading over my shoulder when she said, "Are you writing about that lady petting you?"

There was just the laugh I needed. I'm glad to know what to expect when I heal the scandelous rumors about "that girl". Always nice to be "petted" as well. Lol

Wow. You are too nice lol...I SO would've said something. But that's just me, I guess. No, I've never had anyone be like that towards me. I've asked some pretty awkward things before(although never regarding pregnancy), though.

Wellllll, due to my current shape, I've had the same thing happen to me and I was totally THAT girl. I felt so bad when my friend's mom's face turned so red. In discussing it with my mom later, she told me that I should have 1) admitted that I wasn't pregnant, 2) accepted that it was an honest mistake because of my size, and 3) further helped to make the lady feel better by saying that perhaps one day, I will be blessed with another child. This accomplishes two things. It affirms that the idea of a pregnancy is a positive thing, if not right now. And it takes the focus off her faux pas and my weight.

Of course, now I'd have a hard time keeping a straight face when speaking about being blessed with another pregnancy. : ) Raising a teenager is fairly effective birth control. : )

At a class reunion I greeted a wife of a former classmate that I had met before and talked about that meeting, and as soon as I said it I knew this was not the same woman. Apparently he divorced and remarried rather quickly. Josh asked her where she was from, to which she replied, "Mexico" in the Spanish form, and Josh said, "Oh, Mitchell". Two feet, two mouths...we were made for each other. We'll see if she comes to the next reunion!

as you know, i have had my own belly patting experience. prior to that i've had several other "so... are you expecting" kind of moments (too many, really). but there's something especially horrific about someone being SO CONFIDENT that your girth could only be explained by the presence of another human being that they are willing to actually rub your stomach.

my response was not so gentle as yours. as she lovingly rubbed my stomach i answered "nope, that's just fat".

and then i called you as soon as i got into the car. because i knew that girl would understand my horror.

I have been "pet" before too. OH WHEN ARE YOU DUE? Well I am not due I am just fat. I guess I am not as nice as you. It was a knee jerk reaction.
I have also asked people before how their husband or wife was and forgot they were divorced. Doh! Oops.
