Here's why I love it. I think that Valentine's Day is a day when everyone acts like they should the other 364 days of the year. Husbands tell their wives "I love you" and parents give their kids a sweet surprise "just because." People spend the day letting others know why they care.
Why are we as a society so likely to take the people in our lives for granted?
Well, not me.
My mission is to live every day in a life of love as Scripture encourages us. And just like on any other day, we can spend this day bitter at Hallmark or choose to show the people around us how much they mean to us. Call me a sucker if you want, but I am thankful for another opportunity to share the love of Christ.
Last year, Jami and I were discussing Valentine's Day and we decided to visit people who were lonely because no one wants to feel that way. So instead of feeling sorry for ourselves because we didn't have hot dates, we visited the nursing home and took some cookies to folks who don't get many visitors. The smiles on their faces were better than a million roses (or Gerber Daisies for me...)
So no matter what our lives look like, let's seek to make those around us feel valued and loved and let us enjoy discovering the image of God in all people today.
Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn't love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.

AWESOME! I am now sitting back in my seat with a heating pad...lol. This was truly amazing, even though I still HATE the emphasis everyone puts on Valentine's Day. AND no, I didn't read this bitterly. I read with a smile on my face and in my heart. :)
